Treat Yourself This Valentine’s Day

Anyone that says your Valentine has to be someone you have a romantic connection with has clearly never felt the love of a platonic soulmate. So, if you find yourself single this Valentine’s Day, perhaps consider it an opportunity to celebrate love of a different kind.

Galentine’s Day waffle brunch

Coined by Amy Poehler’s Parks and Recreation character Leslie Knope back in 2010, Galentine’s Day might just be the best fake holiday on the calendar. It’s a day about ‘ladies celebrating ladies’ and it’s been embraced all over the world as a yearly excuse to gather your closest friends, eat waffles and drink mimosas. What’s not to love? Plus, this one is celebrated on February 13, the day before Valentine’s Day, so even those who are coupled up can participate. Mark the occasion with a DIY waffle buffet at home or head to a local café for brunch.

It’s not just for the girls

Just because it’s been dubbed ‘Galentine’s Day’, that doesn’t mean we’re only thinking of one subsection of our guys, gals and non-binary pals. No matter how you identify, sharing your affection for the people you’re not romantically involved with is a great way to spend Valentine’s Day. You don’t even have to like waffles! If you’re flying solo on February 14, get your friends together for an outdoor adventure like a hike or beach day, a group trip to the cinema, a BBQ or a games night at home.

Flex your baking skills

While you might not want or be able to spend the weekend with a group of friends, there are plenty of ways to spread the love. Consider whipping up a batch of something sweet and tasty, like biscuits, cupcakes or brownies, and gift your baked treats to friends, family, neighbours or someone in need.

Spoil your true Valentine

Sometimes, it can be hard to imagine loving anyone or anything more than the love you feel for your pets. And there’s nothing wrong with treating your dog, cat or bunny to a little pampering and a new toy. Take your furry friend out for a w-a-l-k or a lunch date at your favourite dog friendly café or park. If you’ve been thinking about taking the plunge into pet parenthood, this might just be the sign you’ve been waiting for.

Celebrate self-love

Above all else, if you’re single on Valentine’s Day, don’t forget to give yourself a break. Pop a bottle of bubbles and toast to self-love and being who you are. For the ultimate self-pampering evening, stock up on luscious skincare products and eye masks, candles, a delicious smelling bath bomb and a new book. Do your absolute favourite thing, eat your favourite food, watch whatever your heart desires and dance around the house to those guilty pleasure jams.
